kianta > Lutheran Church, Suomussalmi

"Dedicated on August 27, 1950. Designed by Architect J.E. Ermala. About 2/3 of the building costs paid by American Lutherans. There is an Altar Al Secco painting by Mr. Bruno Tuukkanen, picturing some events of Jesus' life on earth, and also a glass painting in the baptismal chapel. A Walker&Co. 24-reg. type organ dates back to 1950. The bells in the belfry are from Kurkijoki parish in Karelia (ceded to the Soviet Union in the peace process). The pulpit and the wood carvings in the pedestal to the baptismal font and also the statue of the apostle by the main entrance are all creations of Mr. Jooseppi Manninen, an artist born in Suomussalmi. The church seats 650 persons."

'Cap of the Four Winds' (Finnish: Neljän tuulen hattu)

This cap is a traditional headdress for the Sami people who live in Lapland, a region covering northern parts of Finland, Sweden, Norway, and Russia.

Feeling blue as it's a Monday!

Update: Thanks to Dave for pointing out a wonderful Fats Domino song that fits this Monday very well, 'Blue Monday'; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a3041kBbxGM
kianta > Kajaani Skeet - June 1982
My father has just shot a clay target and the wad & shot cup is visible (when viewed at X2Large) as a white elongated object at approx. 2 o'clock from the 'smoke/clay cloud'.

Camera: Pentax ME, will check on the film used, shutter speed is unknown (but could be approximated as the clay target travels at approx. 75-80km/h and shotgun muzzle velocity for skeet cartridge is between 390-420 meters/sec)

kianta > Lounatkoski river has been restored to near-natural state after it was used for years floating logs to sawmills downstream. It today provides a great location for arctic grayling and trout fishing (Suomussalmi, Finland)
