Please correct me if I am wrong, but I think this may be a "Female Black-chinned Hummingbird" [Archilochus alexandri]. See link at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black-chinned_Hummingbird

I will continue to work on 'stopping' hummingbird's wings in mid-air as it did not happen on this day. I was thinking that at least I would need to up the shutter speed (and film speed as well depending on the lens) OR perhaps I'd need a fast strobe flash combined with a small aperture (enabling the use of a slower ISO 100-400 film speed) - any suggestions?

Posting this from Sunday's walk at the local 'Open Space'. I am already looking forward to the weekend and am planning on having some quality time with the camera. There is considerable hope that photo ops [with at least one interesting detail (per photo) compared to this empty landcape] will be presenting themselves this weekend.
