'Hovering over Food'

Please correct me if I am wrong, but I think this may be a "Female Black-chinned Hummingbird" [Archilochus alexandri]. See link at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black-chinned_Hummingbird

Other photos from this 'session' are in http://kianta.smugmug.com/gallery/7865396_mjPg8#509871955_v2jb3

I will continue to work on 'stopping' hummingbird's wings in mid-air as it did not happen on this day. I was thinking that at least I would need to up the shutter speed (and film speed as well depending on the lens) OR perhaps I'd need a fast strobe flash combined with a small aperture (enabling the use of a slower ISO 100-400 film speed) - any suggestions?

'Hummingbird No. 2' - 'Rufous Hummingbird' [Selasphorus rufus]

This little hummer was so quick that I could not get a good second shot off before it flew away. I just may have to 'station' myself next to these flowers and wait for a second appearance.

Thanks for identifying this as 'Rufous Hummingbird'! You all are awesome!

Thought it proper to have a photo of Virgin Mary for Sunday's Daily Photo (St. Michael's Church)

Nothing fancy today (making it a relaxing Sunday), but I wanted to show you how quickly (even on the West Coast) the weather sometimes changes. This photo was taken on Friday at 9.35am with visibility less than 200 yards. Following this link you'll see how this area looks less than 4 hours later: http://kianta.smugmug.com/gallery/5718034_ZKDwB#452579343_cP7us

'And now for something completely different': Welcome to the blank landscape that is my mind this evening.  {Sorry to debase a Monty Python line!}

Posting this from Sunday's walk at the local 'Open Space'. I am already looking forward to the weekend and am planning on having some quality time with the camera. There is considerable hope that photo ops [with at least one interesting detail (per photo) compared to this empty landcape] will be presenting themselves this weekend.

'Good Moon Rising'

Walking the doggies on Saturday we came onto this scene which looked quite interesting. Cropped it from the original to this size to perhaps make it a bit more intersting. The complete scene is uncropped here http://kianta.smugmug.com/gallery/5233244_6ehCo#470135681_rMDXb

Update: I will re-crop this later this week as Karina requested.

'Duel under the sun'

It all starts with the stare and is followed with a few pokes at each other - each of them trying to be the 'king of the hill'. I could be, but am not, talking about the fourth round at the Masters golf tournament in Augusta-GA today.
